How to Measure Your Dog
A well-fitted collar keeps your dog safe and comfortable.
Step 1: Measure
Wrap a flexible tape measure around your dog's neck where the collar will sit (mid-neck, not at the base).
Step 2: Add Comfort Space
Slide two fingers flat under the tape measure. This ensures room for comfort without being too loose.
Step 3: Record
Note the measurement in inches, including the finger space.

The making of itThe story behind the piece, and why we chose it
Watch your dog settle into that familiar spot on the sofa, the collar catching the afternoon light as they curl up beside you. A collar this well-made becomes part of them, part of your daily rhythm together, as quietly present as the dog itself.
Each collar is cut, stitched, and finished entirely by hand in Cub & Grey's Worcestershire workshop, from British bridle leather that has been vegetable-tanned using traditional methods. The solid brass or nickel-plated steel hardware is fitted by hand, and because every piece is cut individually, no two collars are exactly alike.
Bridle leather is chosen for its density and longevity: it resists moisture, moulds gently to the neck over time, and develops a deeper character with every walk. These are made in small batches, and each one takes time to produce, so availability is always limited.
Why we chose this
Cub & Grey are one of the few remaining makers producing bridle leather collars entirely by hand in England, and the quality of their finish makes every other collar feel like a compromise.

The collar is cut from British bridle leather, a dense, full-grain hide that has been vegetable-tanned using traditional bark-tanning methods. Vegetable tanning produces a firmer, more structured leather than chrome-tanned alternatives, and one that improves with age rather than degrading. Hardware is solid brass or nickel-plated steel. All stitching is done by hand in the Cub & Grey workshop in Worcestershire, using waxed thread for added strength and weather resistance. Personalisation is available up to eight characters, stamped directly into the leather.
CareCleaning and everyday care
Caring for Your Leather
Our products are crafted from premium British bridle leather - a natural material that develops a beautiful patina over time. With proper care, your collar or lead will last for years.
Cleaning
For everyday dirt and mud:
- Use a barely damp cloth to wipe the surface
- Lay flat and allow to dry naturally
- Never scrub or soak
Important: Never use direct heat (radiators, hairdryers, or direct sunlight) to dry leather. Heat makes leather brittle and can cause cracking.
Water Exposure
If your leather gets wet:
- Wipe off excess moisture with a soft cloth
- Allow to air dry naturally at room temperature
- Once dry, apply leather balm to restore suppleness
After saltwater (beach or sea):
- Rinse immediately with a damp cloth to remove salt residue
- Salt is corrosive, so removing it quickly prevents damage
- Allow to dry naturally, then condition
Conditioning
Regular conditioning keeps leather soft and extends its life.
We recommend:
- Apply a natural leather balm every few months
- More frequently if the leather looks dry or feels stiff
- Use products made from natural ingredients (beeswax, oils)
Benefits of conditioning:
- Maintains suppleness and flexibility
- Reduces visible marks and scratches
- Enhances water resistance
- Develops a rich, deep patina
Colour Transfer
Our leather is naturally dyed using traditional vegetable tanning methods. This means:
- Colours may transfer to light-coloured fabrics if the leather is saturated
- This is a characteristic of high-quality, naturally-dyed leather
- To prevent transfer, ensure leather is fully dry before contact with fabrics
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Avoid plastic bags (leather needs to breathe)
- Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading

What Cub & Grey Owners Say
We LOVE Cub & Grey!!! In fact we love them so much we have a collar in every colour with leads to match including the 3m long hands free/ training lead. Exceptional quality and beautifully crafted collars and leads that get attention and comments wherever we go. They look stunning and fit so well. Mia is certainly the most stylish dog in the park- if only I looked as good!!Mia London, UK
We have two collars and absolutely love the quality. As a pretty chunky chap, Cub & Grey were able to fit an extra hole to make sure the collars fitted perfectly. Not only are they the perfect fit, but when on our adventures, the collars withstand all sorts extreme play, climbing, rolling and exploring, whilst still looking gorgeous!Otto Cheltenham, UK
These collars are so beautiful. The quality is super luxe and we love the finishing touch of being able to add my name to the leather.
