The making of itThe story behind the piece, and why we chose it
Watch your dog lower their head to eat and you realise, perhaps for the first time, how much that small daily ritual deserves something considered. The Wirksworth bowl sits at the centre of it: solid, calm, and quietly beautiful against a kitchen floor or feeding mat.
Each bowl is wheel-thrown by a former Denby Pottery designer working from a studio in Derbyshire, using dense stoneware clay that fires to a satisfying weight and heft. The high-gloss, food-safe glaze pools and breaks differently in every firing, producing colours like Woad Navy Blue, Verna Dark Green, and Peony Pink that have real depth rather than flat uniformity. The gentle ridges left by the potter's hands remain visible on the outer wall, a quiet record of how the piece was made.
The wide, weighted base keeps the bowl planted even during the most enthusiastic mealtimes, and the dishwasher-safe stoneware resists chipping through years of daily use. Every bowl is made to order and fired individually, which means yours will arrive in roughly three weeks and will not be identical to any other in existence.
