MiaCara Gratta Oak Wood Cat Scratcher
Is your cat shredding the sofa arm again?
Part scratch board, part sofa-saver. For the cat who likes to claw.
Cats scratch to stretch, to mark territory, to condition their claws, and to release endorphins. The Gratta is shaped at the length your cat instinctively reaches for with a replaceable insert that lasts many months and a solid oak frame that lasts years. No more buying a new scratcher every few months. Practical, sustainable and built as a showpiece in any room.
The Story
Most scratching posts are vertical. Cats also scratch horizontally: flattening against a carpet, locking their claws into a fibre they can grip, and pulling their full body length backwards in one long stretch. A vertical post serves the upright stretch. The Gratta is shaped for the horizontal one.
The frame is solid oak, designed by Studio Nooi for MiaCara of Cologne and finished in three lacquered colours: White, Greige, or Graphite. A gentle hollow runs along the length of the board, giving the cat a softer place to curl into between scratches. It sits flat on a floor in the room where your cat already scratches, no fixings, no wall mount, no anchor needed. The board reads more as furniture than a pet product.
The scratching surface is a replaceable insert set into the oak frame. When the insert eventually wears, slide the old one out and drop a new one in. The frame stays on your floor for years. The insert lasts many months under daily use, and the cost of a refill is a fraction of the cost of replacing a whole scratcher every year.
Why we chose this
We chose the Gratta because most scratchers serve the vertical stretch and ignore the horizontal one, and the Gratta is the rare horizontal piece that does its job without looking disposable.
