How to Measure Your Sighthound
Getting the right fit is essential for your hound's comfort and safety.
Step 1: Measure
Wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your dog's neck (usually just below the ears).
Step 2: Add Comfort Space
Place two fingers flat under the tape measure. This ensures the collar won't be too tight.
Step 3: Record
Note the measurement in centimetres, including the finger space. All our collars are measured without the buckle, so the size you choose is the true measurement of the collar when worn.

A sighthound moves like water, and a standard collar shifts with every stride, bunching at the throat or slipping clean over the ears the moment your dog ducks a head to sniff the ground. Watch your sighthound settle after a walk, collar sitting exactly where it should, neither pinching nor riding up, and you begin to understand why the fit of a thing matters so much.
Cub & Grey work from a small workshop in Worcestershire, cutting each collar by hand from vegetable-tanned British bridle leather that has been tallow-dressed and pit-tanned over many months to develop a natural firmness and patina. The distinctive martingale-inspired profile, wider across the back of the neck and tapered at the throat, is shaped and stitched for the narrow sighthound neck, finished with solid brass or nickel-plated steel hardware that will not corrode or discolour over time.
Bridle leather is built for repetitive stress and wet weather, softening gradually with wear while holding its structure for years rather than seasons. Each collar is made to order and finished entirely by one pair of hands, meaning no two pieces are identical and lead times reflect that care. Order early if you can.

Caring for Your Leather
Our products are crafted from premium British bridle leather - a natural material that develops a beautiful patina over time. With proper care, your collar or lead will last for years.
Cleaning
For everyday dirt and mud:
- Use a barely damp cloth to wipe the surface
- Lay flat and allow to dry naturally
- Never scrub or soak
Important: Never use direct heat (radiators, hairdryers, or direct sunlight) to dry leather. Heat makes leather brittle and can cause cracking.
Water Exposure
If your leather gets wet:
- Wipe off excess moisture with a soft cloth
- Allow to air dry naturally at room temperature
- Once dry, apply leather balm to restore suppleness
After saltwater (beach or sea):
- Rinse immediately with a damp cloth to remove salt residue
- Salt is corrosive, so removing it quickly prevents damage
- Allow to dry naturally, then condition
Conditioning
Regular conditioning keeps leather soft and extends its life.
We recommend:
- Apply a natural leather balm every few months
- More frequently if the leather looks dry or feels stiff
- Use products made from natural ingredients (beeswax, oils)

Colour Transfer
Our leather is naturally dyed using traditional vegetable tanning methods. This means:
- Colours may transfer to light-coloured fabrics if the leather is saturated
- This is a characteristic of high-quality, naturally-dyed leather
- To prevent transfer, ensure leather is fully dry before contact with fabrics
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Avoid plastic bags (leather needs to breathe)
- Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading
