Leather Hound Collar
Standard collars slide off sighthound heads. This one is shaped to stay: wider at the back of the neck, tapered at the throat, holding through profile rather than tension. British bridle leather, hand-stitched in England to your dog's measurements.
The Story
A sighthound moves like water, and a standard collar shifts with every stride, bunching at the throat or slipping clean over the ears the moment your dog ducks a head to sniff the ground. Watch your sighthound settle after a walk, collar sitting exactly where it should, neither pinching nor riding up, and you begin to understand why the fit of a thing matters so much.
Cub & Grey work from a small workshop in Worcestershire, cutting each collar by hand from vegetable-tanned British bridle leather that has been tallow-dressed and pit-tanned over many months to develop a natural firmness and patina. The distinctive martingale-inspired profile, wider across the back of the neck and tapered at the throat, is shaped and stitched to your dog's individual measurements, finished with solid cast brass or silver hardware that will not corrode or discolour over time.
Bridle leather is built for repetitive stress and wet weather, softening gradually with wear while holding its structure for years rather than seasons. Each collar is made to order and finished entirely by one pair of hands, meaning no two pieces are identical and lead times reflect that care. Order early if you can.
Why we chose this
Cub & Grey solved a genuine problem for sighthound owners with a collar shaped around anatomy rather than convention, made from materials honest enough to last the life of the dog.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dimensions of the Leather Hound Collar?
How to Measure Your Sighthound
Getting the right fit is essential for your hound's comfort and safety.
Step 1: Measure
Wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your dog's neck (usually just below the ears).
Step 2: Add Comfort Space
Place two fingers flat under the tape measure. This ensures the collar will not be too tight.
Step 3: Record
Note the measurement in centimetres, including the finger space.

What is the Leather Hound Collar made from?
The collar is cut from vegetable-tanned British bridle leather, a traditional hide tanned slowly using natural tannins and dressed with tallow for suppleness and water resistance. Hardware is solid cast metal, available in brass or silver finish, chosen for weight and longevity over plated alternatives. Stitching is waxed thread, sewn by hand in Cub & Grey's Worcestershire workshop.
How do I clean and care for the Leather Hound Collar?
Everyday cleaning: wipe with a barely damp cloth, then lay flat and let it dry naturally. Never scrub or soak the leather, and never dry it with direct heat (radiators, hairdryers or sunlight) - heat makes leather brittle and can cause it to crack.
Conditioning: apply a natural leather balm every few months, or sooner if the leather feels dry, to keep it supple and water-resistant and to build a rich patina over time.
Where is the Leather Hound Collar made?
Handmade by Cub & Grey in their workshop in Worcestershire, England.
How long does delivery take, and what is your returns policy?
Orders are dispatched within 3 to 5 working days, with UK delivery on top. UK delivery is free on orders over £75, otherwise £6.99.
We accept returns within 30 days on unused items in their original condition.
How does the personalisation on the Leather Hound Collar work?
Your text is hand-embossed directly onto the leather, up to eight characters, as a blind deboss - a subtle pressed finish with no colour. Each piece is stamped by hand in the Worcestershire workshop.
