How to Measure Your Sighthound
Getting the right fit is essential for your hound's comfort and safety.
Step 1: Measure
Wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your dog's neck (usually just below the ears).
Step 2: Add Comfort Space
Place two fingers flat under the tape measure. This ensures the collar won't be too tight.
Step 3: Record
Note the measurement in centimetres, including the finger space. All our collars are measured without the buckle, so the size you choose is the true measurement of the collar when worn.

Why Sighthound Collars?
Our Leather Hound Collars are specifically designed for breeds with:
- Narrow heads – The wide, tapered shape prevents slipping
- Delicate necks – The broad collar distributes pressure evenly
- Sensitive skin – Soft, unlined leather breathes naturally
Can Non-Sighthounds Wear This Style?
Yes! If your dog's neck measures maximum 17 inches (43cm) with two-finger space, they can wear our Sighthound collar. Many owners love the elegant, wide design for all breeds.
Personalisation is limited to 8 characters.
Your pet's name pressed directly into the leather. We hand-stamp it before dispatch.

The making of itThe story behind the piece, and why we chose it
A whippet has a way of making themselves at home, folding into the sofa beside you with that particular elegance that is entirely their own. The collar they wear every day should be worthy of the moment, shaped to their silhouette rather than forced to fit it.
Cub & Grey work from a small workshop in Worcestershire, cutting each collar and lead by hand from the same batch of British bridle leather, so the grain, the depth of colour, and the natural pull of the hide run in perfect agreement across both pieces. The sighthound profile follows the narrow taper of a whippet's neck, sitting flush without gaping or pinching, and the solid brass or nickel-plated steel hardware is fitted with the same unhurried care given to the leather itself.
British bridle leather is chosen precisely because it is built for a working life: it conditions with use, resists moisture, and grows more supple and characterful over years rather than months. Because every set is cut, stitched, and finished by hand, each one is genuinely individual, and production runs in small batches, so availability is never guaranteed.
Why we chose this
Cub & Grey are one of very few makers producing a truly breed-specific collar cut from same-batch leather, and the quality of their hand-finishing is immediately apparent the moment you hold a piece.

CareCleaning and everyday care
Caring for Your Leather
Our products are crafted from premium British bridle leather - a natural material that develops a beautiful patina over time. With proper care, your collar or lead will last for years.
Cleaning
For everyday dirt and mud:
- Use a barely damp cloth to wipe the surface
- Lay flat and allow to dry naturally
- Never scrub or soak
Important: Never use direct heat (radiators, hairdryers, or direct sunlight) to dry leather. Heat makes leather brittle and can cause cracking.
Water Exposure
If your leather gets wet:
- Wipe off excess moisture with a soft cloth
- Allow to air dry naturally at room temperature
- Once dry, apply leather balm to restore suppleness
After saltwater (beach or sea):
- Rinse immediately with a damp cloth to remove salt residue
- Salt is corrosive, so removing it quickly prevents damage
- Allow to dry naturally, then condition
Conditioning
Regular conditioning keeps leather soft and extends its life.
We recommend:
- Apply a natural leather balm every few months
- More frequently if the leather looks dry or feels stiff
- Use products made from natural ingredients (beeswax, oils)
Benefits of conditioning:
- Maintains suppleness and flexibility
- Reduces visible marks and scratches
- Enhances water resistance
- Develops a rich, deep patina
Colour Transfer
Our leather is naturally dyed using traditional vegetable tanning methods. This means:
- Colours may transfer to light-coloured fabrics if the leather is saturated
- This is a characteristic of high-quality, naturally-dyed leather
- To prevent transfer, ensure leather is fully dry before contact with fabrics
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Avoid plastic bags (leather needs to breathe)
- Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading

We LOVE Cub & Grey!!! In fact we love them so much we have a collar in every colour with leads to match including the 3m long hands free/ training lead. Exceptional quality and beautifully crafted collars and leads that get attention and comments wherever we go. They look stunning and fit so well. Mia is certainly the most stylish dog in the park- if only I looked as good!!Mia London, UK
We have two collars and absolutely love the quality. As a pretty chunky chap, Cub & Grey were able to fit an extra hole to make sure the collars fitted perfectly. Not only are they the perfect fit, but when on our adventures, the collars withstand all sorts extreme play, climbing, rolling and exploring, whilst still looking gorgeous!Otto Cheltenham, UK
