How to Measure Your Giant Hound
Our XL collars are designed for the gentle giants – Irish Wolfhounds, Scottish Deerhounds, and Great Danes.
Step 1: Measure
Wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your dog's neck.
Step 2: Add Comfort Space
Place two fingers flat under the tape measure for comfort allowance.
Step 3: Record

A wolfhound at rest is one of the most quietly magnificent sights in the world: all that height and bone folded into something surprisingly gentle. When your hound wears a collar that fits as it should, wide enough to carry their weight with ease and shaped to the natural curve of their neck, it becomes part of them rather than something merely fastened on.
Each collar is made by hand in Cub & Grey's workshop in Worcestershire, cut and stitched by a single craftsperson from Sedgwick British bridle leather, one of the most respected vegetable-tanned leathers produced in England. The distinctive hound profile, wider at the back of the neck and tapered at the throat, is not a stylistic flourish but a considered fit for breeds whose deep chests and narrow heads demand something more thoughtful than a standard ring collar.
Bridle leather is chosen for its density and longevity: it resists moisture, takes on a richer patina over years of wear, and holds its structure through daily walks and seasons. Because every collar is hand-cut and stitched to your dog's individual measurements, production is small and unhurried, and no two pieces leave the workshop quite alike.

Hardware is solid brass or nickel-plated steel, chosen to complement the leather colour and secured without rivets that could press against the neck. Personalisation of up to eight characters is available, stamped directly into the leather.

Caring for Your Leather
Our products are crafted from premium British bridle leather - a natural material that develops a beautiful patina over time. With proper care, your collar or lead will last for years.
Cleaning
For everyday dirt and mud:
- Use a barely damp cloth to wipe the surface
- Lay flat and allow to dry naturally
- Never scrub or soak
Important: Never use direct heat (radiators, hairdryers, or direct sunlight) to dry leather. Heat makes leather brittle and can cause cracking.
Water Exposure
If your leather gets wet:
- Wipe off excess moisture with a soft cloth
- Allow to air dry naturally at room temperature
- Once dry, apply leather balm to restore suppleness
After saltwater (beach or sea):
- Rinse immediately with a damp cloth to remove salt residue
- Salt is corrosive, so removing it quickly prevents damage
- Allow to dry naturally, then condition
Conditioning
Regular conditioning keeps leather soft and extends its life.
We recommend:
- Apply a natural leather balm every few months
- More frequently if the leather looks dry or feels stiff
- Use products made from natural ingredients (beeswax, oils)

- Reduces visible marks and scratches
- Enhances water resistance
- Develops a rich, deep patina
Colour Transfer
Our leather is naturally dyed using traditional vegetable tanning methods. This means:
- Colours may transfer to light-coloured fabrics if the leather is saturated
- This is a characteristic of high-quality, naturally-dyed leather
- To prevent transfer, ensure leather is fully dry before contact with fabrics
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Avoid plastic bags (leather needs to breathe)
- Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading
